Art365/77: Holi hai!

These are (late) 18th-century pitchkaris from Jaipur, Rajasthan. Holi is an important festival celebrated with great enthusiasm, and pitchkaris are used to spray (coloured) water.

Made of brass, the spout has an animal head. Pitchkaris from this period were quite elaborate, some also made in silver! These were used in the court, and a part of elaborate festive paraphernalia, as shown in several colourful paintings depicting rulers, and deities celebrating the festival.
