Art365/350: Season Scramble

It's that time of the year when you don't know what to make of the season because it is too cold for air-con, and too warm for a sweater! The Yogini in this painting has the perfect solution: a hand fan made of peacock feathers, and a loosely-draped shawl!

The painting is elegant because it is uncluttered. The background is plain with a subtle shift from the hill that she stands on to the sky where a few birds are in flight. There is little to distract the viewer from the Yogini, who stands gracefully wearing a (block-printed?) skirt. Her jewellery is minimal with a string of pearls in her hair, and the long necklace ending in a pendant. The soft curl of her hair and her bright pink shoes and delicate anklets are my favourite part of the outfit! The lines are long, the colours vibrant, and the mood is rather pleasant in this 1687 painting from Bikaner, made by the artist Nathu.
